Fantastic day for Mothers and Daughters at RMS
50 pairs contested the annual Mothers & Daughters competition at Royal Mid-Surrey on Saturday 20 April. This is a 27 hole foursomes medal, usually played on the Pam Barton course but this year, due to high tides and course flooding, a composite course using holes from the J H Taylor course was played. This historic event, which was first played at RMS in 1962, always attracts a host of strong pairings as well as many others who come for an enjoyable day’s golf and a good lunch! The 100 competitors this year represented 54 clubs, 22 counties and four countries and included two ladies with igolf handicaps.
This year’s winners of the Judy Trophy for the best 27 hole scratch prize were the holders Ann and Alex Peters from Shifnal in Shropshire with a score of 81 and 38 (119). They won by one shot from Karen Kuhler and Maddie Josham (Walton Heath) who shot 78 and 42 (120). Third place went to Glenna and Harriet Beasley from Woburn with a score of 121. It was very close!
The RMS Trophy (27 hole handicap), Frankland Moore Bowl (18 hole handicap) and the 18 hole scratch trophy were all won by Karen and Maddie. The Meg Kent Cup for the best girl under 16 years of age was won by Eliza Jarvis from Hindhead.
It was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all. Next year’s event will be held on Saturday 26 April.
