The County Second Team plays a very important part in Surrey golf. The team comprises players (women and girls) typically with a handicap of 6 or less. The season starts in February with a series of friendly matches, and is followed by 4 Inter-County Stovold Trophy matches. Surrey has a very strong record in the Stovold, having won the trophy for the last 11 years. The teams for the Stovold matches are selected after the First Team is announced in April. What is the Stovold trophy?

Pat Stovold was a past Captain and past President of Surrey County Ladies Golf Association. Her support of the seniors, ladies and development of juniors has been crucial to the success of Surrey County Golf. As a means of encouraging talented, young golfers in Surrey to County 1st Team standard, Pat introduced the Stovold Trophy to the South Region golfing calendar in 1997. The 6 a-side competition is played against Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Sussex with foursomes in the morning and singles after lunch.

Very sadly, Pat Stovold passed away in June 2021 but her legacy lives on and the competition remains an important feature in the county calendar for Hampshire, Kent , Middlesex, Surrey & Sussex.  Read More about the history and rules.

2nd Team Colours

Colours are awarded to players who have accumulated 4 points, having played in a minimum of 6 matches.  The points are awarded 1 point for a win and 1/2 point for a half.  There is no difference in points awarded for foursomes or singles.  Points may be carried over from one year to the next in any two year period.

Colours may also be awarded at the discretion of the Stovold Captain to a player without the required number of points but who has shown significant commitment to Surrey  golf and been a valuable Stovold team member.
