Hankley Common win The Druce 2024

The winners Hankley Common

With a touch of sunshine and no rain, 60 Surrey Clubs gathered at Woodcote Park for The Druce 2024 on Thursday 11th July.

Woodcote Park pulled out all the stops, both on and off the course, we are enormously grateful to Ben St John a GM, who is not afraid to muck in and could be seen serving jugs of Pimms throughout the afternoon from the Pimms tent, set up for the day. Louise Fullard, who approached SWG back in 2022 to suggest Woodcote Park as a host club for this flagship event and has driven the idea forward all the way to last Thursday. All the staff worked their socks off all day, from 6am when we arrived to 7.30 pm when we eventually left them in peace! All the fantastic members who manned the car parks from the crack of dawn and who went out ball spotting, our sincere thanks to you all.

Reigate Heath were clubhouse leaders for much of the day, with morning pair, former President of SWG, Chris Braidwood and her partner Elaine Hargreaves getting support from their afternoon pair of Claire Brown and Louise Martin, taking 14 shots off the total and giving them a nett score of 60.75. Reigate Heath waited patiently, Pimms in hand for the last group to come in. The last group, Hankley Common delivered their card to the organiser with a whopping 26 shot improvement! The afternoon pairing of Susan Glover and Penny Minto were able to dovetail nicely with their morning players, Hankley Common Lady Captain, Lynne Callender and partner Cathy Russell to give a nett total of 59.75 edging out Reigate Heath at the last minute. Hankley were delighted, Reigate Heath so very gracious in their runner up spot.

Thank you to all the 240 players and your Lady Captains, this really is a wonderful day for women's golf to come together, play golf, have fun and enjoy our sport.

Date for your diary - The Druce will be held on  WEDNESDAY 9th July 2025 at West Byfleet GC
