Congratulations to Lottie Woad and Bob Lacey, two of Surrey's finest who have received awards at the England Golf Awards Ceremony.
Lottie Woad won the award for Performance of the Year. 2024 was quite the year for Lottie, originally from Farnham Golf Club. Having been one of England's most promising players, 2024 saw her rise to the top-ranked female golfer in the amateur game. Last April, she became the first European golfer to win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. An amazing final-day performance from USA’s Bailey Shoemaker, who shot a competition-record 66, looked like it might take the victory from the Farnham star, but she produced a sensational finish under pressure to win by a single shot.
A few weeks later, Lottie finished in a tie for 23rd place in the Chevron Championship to earn a top-25 finish in her first career LPGA major championship appearance. She finished as one of 29 players in the field with an under-par score and as the second-lowest score among amateurs in the field.
She continued to shine throughout the year, finishing in an amazing tied-10th place at the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews, winning the Smyth Salver for being the low amateur, while she also helped Great Britain & Ireland win the prestigious Curtis Cup against the USA.
Accepting the award, Lottie said: “I’m absolutely delighted to win Performance of the Year. Last year gave me so many amazing memories and opportunities to live out my dream. I’m so grateful for everyone who has helped me get to where I am, including my dad who introduced me to the game and drove me up and down the country to play golf.”
Bob Lacey, also a member of Farnham, was named the winner of England Golf’s Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of his exceptional contribution to junior golf within the county. Bob has been the driving force behind the Surrey Rookie Tour, JAGS events, county championships, Surrey Schools competitions, and the management of the U12, U13, and U14 squads. His tireless efforts have provided more than 150 young golfers with well-organised, enjoyable, and educational experiences, helping shape the next generation of talent.
Accepting the award, Bob Lacey said: "This is absolutely amazing and I had no expectations to win this award. To see junior amateur golfers develop, not only as golfers, but people, such as Lottie Woad and Kris Kim, have come through our rookie tour and turned professional. It's fantastic to see so many take golf and make it their career, but if they haven't, they've benefitted with inter-personal skills and personal development."
